A New Open Mic, a Facelift for the Website, and ALL THE SCORPIO ENERGY!

Hello to all my talented friends! Happy Hump Day!

It feels like summer outside, so let’s channel those vibes. TONIGHT, Wednesday 11/4, meet me down at Green Island Oyster on Harding Street in Worcester. I’m hosting my very first open mic there!

It feels apropos to be throwing an inaugural party in a blue, ocean wave–themed bar on this momentous day. #IYKYK

We’ll be there from 7 to 10 PM, with father daughter Duo Joshua & Natalie — “Retro Soundwave” as our first featured performers. Come play a few songs or grab a few $1.50 oysters and listen. We’ll be doing this on Wednesdays, with a different local performer in the spotlight each week.

Want to play tonight? Find the open mic signup on the Green Island Oyster event page.

And speaking of firsts, MamaKilsmith.com is live again! I took it down to redo it — I’ve been working on it over the past week in between gigs, event planning, and running around all over town with three kids. Some of the finishing touches happened right on my phone in the school parking lot. So yes, hitting publish felt pretty damn good.

You can find my upcoming shows, open mic details, and more in one place now.

Birthday Month, Here We Go!

I’m feeling especially grateful this month. It’s my birthday month, and four days into November, all I can say is: Scorpio energy for the win!

So many amazing opportunities have come my way this month. I get to celebrate my 37th trip around the sun with big shows all month long, and I get to share the stage with some pretty amazing people. Check out the Events Calendar for the full details, but here’s a quick rundown of where I’ll be, what I’ll be doing, and who I’ll be doing it with.

  • Sunday, Nov. 1 — Songwriters in the Round at WCUW, Worcester. We kicked off the month with original music. Julie Dolphin shared some of her political satire songs, I played a few of my own, and we had a nice time sharing tunes with each other.

  • Wednesday, Nov. 4 · 7–10 PM — Open Mic Night at Green Island Oyster, Worcester. Our first night in the Canal District, featuring Joshua & Natalie of Retro Soundwave!

  • Thursday, Nov. 5 · 6–9 PM — Open Mic Night at Timberyard Brewing Co., East Brookfield. Come play or listen! Chris Princepe, Skip VonKuske, and Mike McGlynn are featured. All ages, all talents. Sign up in person at 5:30 PM.

  • Wednesday, Nov. 11 · 7–10 PM — Open Mic Night at Green Island Oyster, Worcester. Featured performer TBA.

  • Saturday, Nov. 14 · 7 PM — Turn It Down: The Dark Side of the Moon at the JMAC BrickBox Theater, Worcester. I’ll sing lead on “The Great Gig in the Sky” with the Turn It Down All-Stars. All proceeds benefit Pernet Family Health Service.

  • Wednesday, Nov. 18· 6:30 - 7:30 — “How Journalism Works: How Do You Cover Music?” I’ve been invited to moderate a panel organized by Victor Infante, editor of Worcester Magazine and features editor at the Telegram & Gazette. I’ll be joined by Meg Trogolo, columnist at Worcester Magazine, Ernie Floyd, executive producer at Unity Radio, Arun Rath, host of All Things Considered on GBH, and Mike Hsu, host on The Pike FM. As someone who spends a lot of time putting on shows and spreading the word about local artists, I’m excited to ask what makes a music story worth covering and what they wish more musicians knew about reaching out to the press. Thanks to Victor for bringing us all together!

  • Thursday, Nov. 19 · 6–9 PM — Open Mic Night at Timberyard Brewing Co., East Brookfield.

  • Friday, Nov. 20 — Birthday Open Mic at Workshop 13. I’ll be playing on my actual birthday, and the Hipswayers are the featured act!

  • Wednesday, Nov. 25 · 7–10 PM — Open Mic Night at Green Island Oyster, Worcester.

  • Saturday, Nov. 28 · 3–5 PM — Family Fun with Mama Americana. An afternoon of acoustic Taylor Swift favorites and sing-alongs.

  • Saturday, Nov. 28 · 7–10 PM — ’90s Party with the Mama Kilsmith Band at Timberyard Brewing Co., East Brookfield. I’ll be back onstage that night with the full band.

Take a look around the new site, and if you’re in Worcester tonight, come say hi!
