Meet Serena May Kilsmith

Hello Friend!

I'm Serena May Kilsmith—musician, songwriter, mom of three, and the woman behind “Mama Kilsmith: Open Mics and More” .

My days are a mix of music, mothering, creative projects, and a whole lot of moving parts. In between school drop-offs, loads of laundry, and those rare quiet moments when my toddler is napping, you'll usually find me behind a computer, taking care of business.

It's a hectic lifestyle, but I'm a chaos coordinator extraordinaire!

A Life of Music: Meaning, Passion & Purpose

Music has always been more than something I do.

It's a part of who I am, a creative outlet, a source of purpose, and one of the most meaningful ways I connect with others.

All around Central Massachusetts, across New England and beyond, you'll find me playing solo acoustic shows, performing at private parties, hosting open mics and songwriter showcases, or rocking out with my full band, Mama Kilsmith.

From intimate house concerts and campfire sing-alongs to festivals and big rock shows, I love the variety of experiences that come with being a working musician, and all the new friends I make along the way.

At the heart of it all is the music. If musical talent is a gift — then it is truly a gift that keeps on giving.

More Than Just Melodies

When I'm not onstage, there's a good chance I'm working behind the scenes to make something happen.

As an independent freelancer with more than 15 years of professional experience, my work includes websites, marketing, social media management, booking, event promotion, and creative collaborations.

I love bringing people and ideas together, and I really love being part of other people's success stories—whether it's helping a small business grow, promoting local talent, or bringing an exciting new event to life.

Making Music Accessible

One of the things I love most about music is its ability to bring people together.

I've met so many people who tell me, "I wish I had musical talent," as though music is something you're either born knowing how to do or destined to admire from the audience.

I don't see it that way.

Music is a skill that can be learned, practiced, shared, and enjoyed at any age. There's more than one way to be a musician, and you don't have to be a child prodigy or a classically trained performer to participate.

That's a big part of why I love hosting open mics, creating opportunities for local songwriters, and working with community organizations like WCUW 91.3 FM and Camp Marshall.

I want people to feel welcome—not just to listen, but to learn, participate, and discover what they're capable of.
